Disclaimer: I have never written on a blog.

So after months and months of planning, we have finally made it. Our beloved Project: Community! has launched with 13 awesome participants. Our first session was a success...I think. I suppose we'll see what the participants have to say.

Anyways, I will keep this short.

Hi, it would be great to get some details about your youth leadership program. What are your goals? Why was this program started? Who are the organizers and who are the participants? What kind of activities will take place? How will the program benefit the community? Please share!

  2. Sen Sugano Said,

The purpose of Project: Community! is to develop and empower the youth’s voice in Little Tokyo. Through a series of interactive sessions, high school participants will gain an understanding of identity as well as the importance of preservation of the Japanese American community. Each session will gather facilitators and speakers from various parts of the community to conduct interactive workshops focused on specific topics ranging from identity, to the power of place, to grassroots organizing on a youth level.

The program was started by JACL, Pacific Southwest District and Rising Stars Youth Leadership Program. Participants were selected from various Greater Los Angeles high schools. Some participants are from as far as Upland, Valencia and some are as close as Gardena.
